Practice History
The new St James Medical Centre opened in 1991 and was converted from a 1960’s house on the site of the Shandon Estate Waterworks and situated in the St James area of the town. The practice, started in the 1920s by Dr R A Walter, has seen many changes of premises and personnel over the years. There are now three partners in the practice along with a lady GP associate, three practice nurses, a practice manager and a team of receptionists and secretarial staff. A health visitor, community midwife, community nurses, phlebotomist, counsellor and psychologist are also attached to the practice.
